The two seeds for this puzzle, 26A and 5D, originally were intended to seed a themed puzzle, but I couldn’t come up with two other good theme answers and a revealer. Instead, they anchor this themeless, which I think should play on the challenging side.
If you’re interested, here’s a link to the Wikipedia page for 47A. She was a distinguished mathematician/astronomer/philosopher and counselor to the political leadership of 4th century Alexandria, who met a violent end at the hands of a Christian mob.

The top half went smoothly, but I slowed down in the lower half. LOVE the word SACKBUT. I’m on the board of trustees of the Connecticut Early Music Society, so have encountered that particular instrument very often! TIL 55-Across: had NEVER heard of it! Favorite clues = 29A, 51A, 33D and, most of all, 53A. I’m trying to figure out what theme you were trying to work with. Was it album titles with references to music?

The theme was still inchoate – something about celestial music. I often work backwards – come up with a couple of seeds I like then try to build a theme around them. Actually, something about heavenly music might be acollab, though tje three that spring to mind are all classical: the Jupiter symphony, Thr Planets (which could be a revealer) and Das Lied von der Erde. There’s also Freddy Mercury. Interested?
