Themeless 135 b/w Let’s Do the Time Warp Again

Mother and baby baboons, Lake Manyara, Tanzania (Aug. 2026). Nothing to do with the puzzles.

Themeless 135:

Words: 77 (16×15)

Average Length: 5.25

Whoops – one of the seeds for this puzzle, 25 Across, was also a seed in a themeless puzzle I posted several weeks ago.  (The other seeds were 6 Down and 33 Down.) I somehow forgot that I’d already used it.  If your memory is better than mine – and I sure hope it is – you should have a head start.

Let’s Do the Time Warp Again:

Words: 7 (4×3)

Average Length: 3.43

Yesterday, a fellow cruciverbalist, Moose Dixon, posted a terrific Tim Curry tribute puzzle, which you can solve here. After completing it, I dashed off this micro-puzzle, entitled “Let’s Do the Time Warp Again”. Here are links to the online and AcrossLite versions. I didn’t do a pdf, but you can print the .puz file if you like solving on paper.

As I wrote over on Crosshare, I hadn’t been aware of Tim Curry’s passing until I saw your “Let’s Do The Time Warp Again” mini (so clever). (I would love to have seen him and McKellan in Amadeus.) I learned some things from your themeless: the term in 6D and that there’s a 61D variety of apple! Favorite clues = 14A, 1D, 26D, 27D, and 28D. And I’m sure I’m missing something, but I didn’t understand the clue to 5A.

Re 5A: “A king cake is a sweet, ring- or oval-shaped pastry decorated with purple, green, and gold sugar that is eaten to celebrate the Carnival season and honor the biblical Three Wise Men.” “King Cake is a glazed and sugared yeast bread ring that is a New Orleans tradition for Mardi Gras.” Now you’ve learned something about apples and cakes!
