I’m once again learning things from a Jeff puzzle: I’m not sure I’ve ever been aware that there are ‘moods’ in grammar. Such a great idea for a theme! The Croce tune is a favorite from my youth. 20D was also new to me.

Glad to provide a couple of mostly useless factoids to start your day! “I Got a Name” and “Time in a Bottle” are both excellent songs. Another musician who died way too young – though in reading about him in Wikipedia, he had sent a letter to his wife, which she received after his death, saying he was going to quit music and write short stories and movie scripts.
