The two seeds for this puzzle were 39A (a phrase I heard from my son) and 18A (the debate over which amuses me greatly).  My original plan was to make this a themeless, but then I realized that 39A could be part of the title of a well-known book about grammar.  Poof, a themed puzzle is born.

Another terrific one, Jeff! I think this was the first time I’ve seen 19D in a puzzle (such an incredible tool in science/medicine). Favorite clues = 7D, 9D, 28A and 69A (the latter two are, for me, nice fresh takes on a couple of crossword standards). I also like the 27D/35D cross-referencing. The book referenced in the theme is a favorite of mine. For me, Truss’ best example of the ‘power’ of punctuation is this:

A woman without her man is nothing.

Now, some punctuation:

A woman: without her, man is nothing.
